Bespoke Bag Project – The Final Touches

One more time, we’d love to invite you behind the scenes at our Studio where our design team is working on the final touches to Lenka Gourdie’s  custom made Maxi Karolina handbag. Last time, you saw how the leather is cut for the main ‘body’ of the bag. This week, we are working on handles and few more details as well as embossing Lenka’s name onto the leather – a truly tailor-made detail which makes this handbag very special and one of a kind.

Before placing all the parts of the bag together, the leather goes through what is called the “skiving” process. What you can see below is how the leather edges are being skived using an industrial machine.

The art of making the perfect handbag requires it to be functional, as well as beautiful. This is why Lenka requested the handles to her Maxi Karolina to be longer than usual, to suit her wearing style.

Once the length has been adjusted, each handle is hand cut in leather and moulded around the tube. Each detail has been marked and pre-prepared in advance to ensure precision.

 The next step is to hand stitch the handles to get that perfect hand-finished look.

Once the handles are stitched, each one is hand cut. The final step is to have the edges buffed and dyed to achieve that high quality luxury finish.

One of the final and dearest to us details is embossing Lenka’s name into the leather of the handbag – the ultimate luxury statement.  Lenka wanted something special but let our design team chose the message – below, you can see the charming note that we came up with in the making.

Finally, our designers attach the message onto the card pocket and have it stitched on to the bag.
