Good things come to those who…follow us on social media! Back in May, we ran a competition to win the Heart Purse in Passion Pink to celebrate spring with one of our brightest mini handbags. We wanted to inspire entrants to tell us why they deserve to win this colourful and versatile purse, perfect for day as well as night time and easily matched with a variety of looks – from casual chic to super sleek.

We are pleased to introduce the winner – Amy Bennett, from the Republic of Ireland – one of the places we cannot wait to visit! Amy nominated her daughter, explaining that both of them are handbag lovers and appreciate the rareness and craftsmanship of this luxury purse, handcrafted in London from the finest materials, such as the softest Italian nappa leather and finished with one of Anya Sushko’s signature details – the central lock.

We chatted to Amy, now the lucky owner of an Anya Sushko Heart Purse, to find out a little bit about her and her style.

Amy shared that she is a full time working mum of two beautiful daughters. Having recently lost three stone and dropped four dress sizes, Amy has rediscovered her love of new fashions and high style.

A friend of hers told her about the must-know handbag brand that Anya Sushko is, showed her our website and this is how she came to know of the Heart Purse Competition. We wondered if Amy has a good luck ritual. Not really, she said, adding that she does keep a picture of her nan, who she was brought up, and always says a little prayer to her :).

We asked Amy about her first impression of her new designer handbag -“The handbag is absolutely beautiful and it really reflects my style to be honest, stylish, fashionable and timeless.” she said.

And what about the debut of the Heart Purse – where will she be wearing it first? “To my holiday in Portugal this year, it’s absolutely perfect, the colour is amazing, the workman ship is superior quality” exclaimed Amy, happily showing off the purse, teamed with a gorgeous summer flock.

Our Trip to New York – Independent Handbag Designer Awards Ceremony

As one of the finalists in the Independent Handbag Designer Awards, we were kindly invited to attend the awards ceremony in New York City, USA in June. We didn’t need to be asked twice – we packed our bags, full of excitement, hopes and dreams and jumped on a flight from Heathrow to the Big Apple!

NYC, one of the fashion capitals of the world, did not disappoint! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed every second – and we wanted to share some of our experience with you. The night before the ceremony, the finalists, from around the world, put their biggest smiles on and flocked to a rooftop party in the buzzy East Village – one of the hottest parts of town.

The view over the New York skyline was breathtaking and the evening gave us the opportunity to meet and get to know most of the other designers as well as to fully enjoy the air of NYC! Anya chose the Severina in Camelot python leather to complement her casual chic outfit on the night.

The next day, it was time to get down to work – the Awards Ceremony followed. Held in the SVA theater, it attracted a range of high profile media, guests as well as sponsors. Here, Anya looks suitably chuffed on her way into the event.

We were short listed in the Best Handbag category for the Deco Dame Bag, which was exhibited along with all the finalist bags – beautiful and of such a great quality, we were totally blown away by the talent of the designers.

We didn’t walk away with the prize, but received lots of accolades and applause from the organisers, media and fellow designers which meant the world to us. Even though we didn’t come home with a trophy, we were indeed very content with the opportunity to be there.  The party and the ceremony were five star, bringing exciting emotions and lovely memories. Plus, there is always next year – next time, we hope to win! Our Anya Sushko bags are always ready to be packed for NYC – we celebrate the beauty of the Big Apple with a few more snaps from our time away.
