Isn’t it funny how you can live in a city and sometimes miss things on your doorstep. We found this very true this week. Accidentally, we walked into Outpost – a shop, gallery and community hub in North London, not far from where our head designer and founder Anna lives. After walking inside and noticing it was a non-profit initiative, we were very impressed with what this non-profit shop had to offer – beautiful contemporary furniture, homewares and gorgeous gifts! Supporting good causes is very close to our hearts and we have worked with various charities in the past. Therefore we saw this as an excellent opportunity to get involved by offering some of our handbags to help them raise money for a good cause.
Outpost is led by Peter Bedford Housing Association, an organisation with charitable status in North East London that supports vulnerable and excluded people, helping them to gain the confidence and skills to shape brighter futures. Some of the training and activities on offer include courses in art, design, textiles and joinery, providing opportunities for Peter Bedford tenants and participants to develop creative skills in a welcoming environment – and to produce items to then sell in the shop
We wanted to fo more than donating – and decided to help generate awareness for their cause. Our Founder Anna suggested creating a small collection of leather accessories in collaboration with Outpost, simple leather purses, make up bags and pencil cases that can be sold in the shop, not only rasing money but also allowing the customers to take home a small piece of affordable designer luxury.
We will be sharing images of Anna making OUTPOST Leather Accessories in the coming weeks, keep your eyes peeled for that one and let us know what you think!
We have designed a range of exclusive small leather goods for Outpost, handmade from our left over luxury leather, upcyclyed, designed and available at an affordable price ranging from £15 – £40. Each piece is recognisable with an ‘OUTPOST by Anya Sushko Handmade in London’ logo and all items are available now in store. Both Orla O’Flanagan Creative Industries Coordinator, and Lorna Coxall, Community Hub Coordinator are already fans and proud owners of the first purses! Anya Sushko Handbags London is honoured to be collaborating with Outpost and we look forward to further developing our range of ideas to bring eco-chic luxury to the charity market.
Anna’s real passion for giving back to the community has resulted in providing Outpost with specialised courses where people in the Peter Bedford Community can learn about making and designing as well as developing new skills. Watch this space.
